The Big Knot
I want to communicate a project of great importance to my career as an artist. To complete a journey undertaken for some time now with Banca Fideuram, which will celebrate its fiftieth year of activity next year, I am working on a travelling exhibition that will touch several Italian cities and prestigious museum venues.
The initiative revolves around the symbolism of the "knot", a theme very dear to me that has long since entered my artistic production, becoming in fact one of the references that most distinguish it. In my works, as in the performative activity, the knot returns persistently expressing a multiplicity of meanings; in the simple gesture of binding energetic tensions thicken, relationships are established, emotions and memories are strengthened, and purposes are established to follow by launching challenges with oneself as in the act of untying alludes to overcoming a difficulty, a problem or complexity of an unknown factor.
I began to reflect on this theme during my Australian stay, which brought me in contact with the Aboriginal tribes and with the figure of the shaman, who uses ropes knotted during his healing rites. From that moment on, this archetypal symbol that unites all the cultures of the planet has become an integral part of my creative processes, effectively inspiring the relationship dynamics that I establish with people who come into contact with my poetic universe.
The work Il Grande Nodo, which I am planning with the historic Battaglia Foundry in Milan, represents a landing point for this long journey. It is a monumental sculpture of about six meters made with the ancient technique of lost wax, which, before its final location in an urban public space, will be the ideal starting point for reflection for a series of meetings and debates that will take place in prestigious exhibition venues and museums. An itinerant project that will "knot" thoughts and emotions by imprisoning them in bronze for eternity.
